Famous Monsters has been a huge influence on me and my work. I can remember the day when I walked into the local drug store and gazed at the work of Basil Gogos, the man who brought fine art to all things monsters and horror. His vivid and explosive colors would stick out like a flaming tomato amongst the bland magazine landscape. After buying that 1974 magazine, I never knew it would remain an interest in art and the camp of pop art and the imagination of the 50s 60s and beyond. Genius such as Lovecraft and H.G. Wells were the heroes in the Monster genre along with amazing actors, directors, writers, artist, and of course MONSTERS! The horror writers of today all know about the HUGE influence James Warren and Forest Ackerman would produce from their own interest of a different reality, or at least connecting our realities to it. We live among monsters, so you might as well give in and visit me in Pennsylvania in October. I will have many paintings: lartge and small to gaze and hopefully purchase.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sounds like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest.

I truly love painting portraits, and my landscapes come from my years of living in Maine and Connecticut and experiencing the awesome beauty of New England. Passionate painter of modern art, landscape paintings, portrait works, and commissioned art…

Hello good friends - welcome to Art by Mark Leo! I know that you are a fan of impressionism and modern art since you are here. My philosophy is simple: if you want it to look like real life, then take a picture. I like to create a bit of movement in my work, so do not look for straight lines or pencil marks, since I paint rather than drawing out a sketch, therefore the paint brush is my pencil and pen. I paint rather quickly when I first sit down to scale out my subject matter. I believe those initial hours create something that I did not intend to be - which keeps the subject matter fresh, exciting and sometimes mysterious. Why such chaos? The answer is that I don't not want to be calculating or careful. Taking risks will be the only way I will grow as an artist and help preserve my passion to work.
